FFRF and member celebrate Winter Solstice with display at N.J. Big Bang site

The Freedom From Religion Foundation is excited to announce the premiere of a Bill of Rights/Winter Solstice display in Holmdel, N.J., the spot where the Big Bang was confirmed.

FFRF’s popular Bill of Rights Nativity display is now available for viewing in the Garden State, thanks to FFRF Member Patrick Trischitta (pictured). “Holmdel, N.J., is the site of the Holmdel Horn Antenna, which in 1964 Bell Labs scientists Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson used to confirm the Big Bang creation of the universe 13.8 billion years ago,” says Trischitta.

Trischitta, a longtime resident of Holmdel and a retired Bell Labs Holmdel engineer, put up the display recently. A sign attached to the tongue-in-cheek display, featuring three Founders and Lady Liberty gazing at a “baby” Bill of Rights in a manger, reads:
At this season of the Winter Solstice
Join us in honoring the Bill of Rights, adopted on December 15, 1791, which reminds us there can be no religious freedom without the freedom to dissent.
Keep religion and government separate!

FFRF thanks Trischitta for his initiative in putting up the display, and is pleased to see it resting at a site of secular significance in honor of the Winter Solstice and Bill of Rights.

“December belongs to us all — nonbelievers included, because the Winter Solstice is the natural ‘reason for the season,’” comments FFRF Co-President Dan Barker. “And December also happens to be the anniversary month of the ‘birth’ of our Bill of Rights, giving us even more reason to celebrate.”

The Freedom From Religion Foundation is a national nonprofit organization with 42,000 members across the country, including over 800 members in New Jersey. Its purposes are to protect the constitutional principle of separation between state and church, and to educate the public on matters relating to nontheism.
